Worship to Kwan-yin

Since Buddhism was gradually spreading in China in the period of Han Dynasty, Kwan-yin, who formerly belonged to Mahayana, began to gain unprecedented adoration. In the following history of more than one thousand years, the worship of Kwan-yin had conducted great influence on China’s local religions and faithes among the people. Meanwhile, influenced by China’s local culture, the content of Kwan-yin worship kept changing. Gradually, this worship becomes the core of China’s popular faithes. This is furtherly proved by many statues and legends spreaded in Dali area, such as statues of “Offspring-Sending Kwan-yin ”, “A Cuo Ye Kwan-yin” and the story of “Kwan-yin saved Dali by incarnating into a gammer and carrying a big stone on back”
